IBAC Forum

On Tuesday February 21 David will be hosting a forum on the Independent Broad-Based Anti-Corruption Commission (IBAC).

The commission is a Victorian first initiative of the Baillieu Government that will restore integrity, transparency and accountability to government. Despite numerous instances of corruption in local councils, the former Labor Government failed to introduce an independent anti-corruption commission during its 11 years of government. The IBAC, which will have broad powers to investigate politicians, police, public servants, local councils and judges, will help remove the culture of secrecy that existed under the former government.

Attendees will hear from The Hon Andrew McIntosh, the minister responsible for the establishment of the commission, who will explain the commission’s powers and responsibilities and will be available to answer any questions.

David has long supported the creation of the commission, which is an important election promise of the Coalition Government, and has spoken twice on the issue in Parliament. He highlighted the need to combat corruption in local councils and the broad range of powers available to the commission. His speeches on the issue can be found here and here.

David strongly encourages all those interested to attend and take advantage of this fantastic opportunity to hear straight from the Minister regarding this ground-breaking reform.

The forum will be held at 8Pm on Tuesday 21 February at the Alma Sports Club, 1 Wilks Street, Caulfield North.

All those who wish to attend can RSVP by calling 9527 3866 or emailing nadine.baines@parliament.vic.gov.au
